Lexia’s web-based technology allows students to extend their learning and practice with Lexia outside of school. This lesson will explain how students can access Lexia at home on a computer or a tablet. We’ll also explain how to get your students started using Lexia at home.
To get started, elementary school students using Lexia Strategies on a desktop or laptop computer will simply open a web browser and type in : wwwlexiacore5.com. Middle school students, high school students and adults using Lexia Strategies on a desktop or laptop will type in: www.lexiatrategies.com
For students who have tablets at home, iPad users must go to the App Store and download the app for the Lexia program they are using at school. Android tablet users can download the Lexia apps from Google Play.
Students around the world use Lexia at home every day - 365 days a year. Teachers appreciate the “Paperless” homework that is targeted to students’ needs. Parents who see Lexia in action will better understand your school’s commitment to the highest quality reading instruction. But the most important advantage for students using Lexia at home is more time spent practicing reading skills and targeted reading instruction.
The first time the program is used on a device or computer, the student or parent needs to setup the device by selecting the Student/Parent button and entering their teacher’s email address
Lexia provides letters you can give to parents that explain how to do all of this! To find the School to Home letter, login to myLexia.com and click the Training Materials link. Look for the School to Home section. These letters for parents are available in either English or Spanish.
Students using Lexia at home use the same login information and pick up their work right where they left off in school. All of the students’ progress and usage data while working at home is sent to myLexia. It’s a good idea to tell students if they are struggling on a skill that after repeated attempts on the same task they should try a different activity while working at home.
You should also remind parents to allow their student to work independently at his or her own pace. Parents and older siblings can provide encouragement, but they should not provide the answers!
Many schools find it helpful to demonstrate the Lexia student program at Parent Night events or show a Lexia video from our website www.lexialearning.com . Experience shows that parents who understand the benefits of Lexia are better able to promote Lexia’s use at home so “let’s talk it up!”
Students who don’t have access to a computer or tablet at home can use Lexia in the public library, at a relative’s house, during before or after school programs and in community centers. Remember, using Lexia at home is one of the best ways to increase student time on Lexia so that your students are more likely to meet or exceed their reading goals.
